Mayumi Terada is a Japanese calligrapher and artist.

She has practiced Japanese calligraphy for 36 years, beginning in childhood. Rooted in the traditions of Japanese calligraphy, her work explores the expressive possibilities of ink, line, and negative space.

Terada creates calligraphy that can be experienced not only as written language, but also as visual art.

At the heart of her work is the belief that what we seek already exists within us.

Rather than searching outside ourselves for what we believe is missing, her works invite us to recognize and trust what is already there.

Through her calligraphy, she hopes to create moments in which viewers reconnect with something they may have forgotten within themselves.

She also believes that when individual strengths come together in harmony, they can create something greater than one person could create alone.
