NO WAY? II - Original Sculpture is part of Bertrand MARCELLY's ongoing research into perception, reference systems and the transformation of familiar visual languages.
The work takes the codes of road signage as its starting point: a visual system normally designed to provide clear information, direction and certainty. Here, this familiar reference system is deliberately displaced. The inversion of the sign, the altered orientation and the tension between geometric structure and language disturb the expected reading and create a situation in which recognition is followed by questioning.
The work does not seek to provide a new direction or a definitive interpretation. Rather, it explores what happens when a familiar system no longer functions exactly as expected. The viewer recognises the sign, then discovers that its relationships have changed.
The reflective aluminium surface reinforces this process. It interacts with light and with the surrounding environment, allowing the work to change according to viewpoint and conditions of observation.
NO WAY? II therefore becomes a perceptual situation in which sign, geometry, space and observer enter into relation. The familiar becomes unstable, and perception itself becomes part of the work.
Created in 2024, the original sculpture was a semi-finalist at ARTEXPO BASEL 2024 and has since been exhibited internationally.

NO WAY?
NO WAY?

NO WAY? II - Limited Edition /10 2024 H.80 x W.62 x D.1.5 cm Print on acrylic glass renseignement sur lieu d'expos €
-ENGLISH:
----------
NO WAY? II - Limited Edition /10 extends Bertrand MARCELLY's original sculpture NO WAY? II into a signed and numbered edition of 10 works, accompanied by 2 artist's proofs (E.A.), printed on glossy acrylic glass, H.80 × W.62 cm.
The work takes the visual language of road signage as a familiar reference system: a language normally associated with direction, orientation and certainty. Through inversion, displacement and geometric tension, this system is deliberately disturbed.
The viewer recognises the sign while simultaneously encountering something that no longer functions according to its expected logic.
This shift between recognition and questioning is central to the work. Rather than imposing a particular interpretation, the piece invites the viewer to reconsider how meaning is constructed when a familiar visual reference changes its relationships.
The glossy acrylic-glass surface introduces another perceptual dimension. Reflection, light and transparency interact with the geometric structure, making the experience of the work dependent upon viewpoint and surrounding conditions.
The limited edition therefore preserves the essential principle of the original sculpture while translating it into a different material and format. It extends the same research into the relationship between sign, geometry, perception and observer.
NO WAY? II - Limited Edition /10 is strictly signed and numbered.

NO WAY? II - Édition limitée /10 prolonge la sculpture originale NO WAY?
NO WAY?

HAPPY WORLD? - Butterfly IIa2 2026 H.52.5 x W.83.0 x D.1.5 cm Acrylic glass print renseignement sur lieu d'expos €

HAPPY WORLD? - Butterfly IIa2 approaches perception through movement, transformation and the relationship between geometry and gesture.
The butterfly emerges from a geometric transformation, introducing a sense of lightness, movement and possibility. Yet the question mark in the title remains essential: the work does not state that this is a "happy world". It leaves the interpretation open.
This tension between an immediately recognisable image and an unresolved question is central to the work. The familiar form of the butterfly may evoke resilience, transformation or freedom, while its geometric construction places these associations within a more structured visual system.
The work becomes active through the viewer's perception. Light, colour, geometry and viewpoint interact, allowing the image to change according to the conditions in which it is observed.
HAPPY WORLD? - Butterfly IIa2 is part of Bertrand MARCELLY's broader research into Relational Perceptual Architecture, in which geometry is used not simply to organise forms, but to reveal relationships between perception, matter, space and meaning.
The work received an award recognising the technical and artistic excellence of the artist's work at the Olympus Arts Awards, Museum of Art and Science, Milan, February 2026, curated by art historian and critic Francesca Callipari.

HAPPY WORLD?
HAPPY WORLD?

Relative Position - SHIFTED WORLD 2025 H.97.0 x W.97.0 x D.1.5 cm Acrylic glass print renseignement sur lieu d'expos €
-ENGLISH:
----------
RELATIVE POSITION - SHIFTED WORLD belongs to Bertrand MARCELLY's ongoing research into how reality changes according to the position, reference system and perceptual conditions from which it is observed.
The work is built from the chessboard, a recurring geometric matrix in the artist's research. Here, the structure is subjected to a double axial displacement: the chessboard remains recognisable, but its internal relationships are shifted. Axes no longer coincide as expected, orientations become relative, and the apparent stability of the system gives way to a dynamic equilibrium.
At its centre, a mirrored square can be perceived as a symbolic sixty-fifth square, extending the traditional sixty-four-square structure beyond its original system. The mirror introduces another dimension into the geometry: it reflects the observer and therefore incorporates their position into the work.
The circular perimeter establishes a second reference field around the displaced chessboard. Centre, periphery, direction and orientation are no longer fixed values; they become relational conditions that change with the viewer's position.
The work continues the investigation developed in EXTRAPOLATED WORLD, where the chessboard was transformed towards a circular geometry through extrapolation. In SHIFTED WORLD, the transformation occurs through displacement.
Matter, geometry, reflection and light operate together to construct a perceptual situation in which the experience of displacement becomes perceptible.
The work does not represent a changing reality; it constructs the conditions through which reality may appear differently.
