ART STATEMENT
I am an Oil Painter based in Hong Kong. Portrait, human figures are the recurrent subject to express my deep affection for mankind. Capturing moments around my environment or neighbourhood in a monotonous life. (e.g. passengers on public transport), and latter recreates the scene together with my hazy memories from the photos taken. My depiction of figures and faces somehow suffused with bright, intense and vibrant colors, and forms disintegrate, contour dissolves in light lends them quite unsettling and occasionally ghostly character.
My work took a shift into more psychological side when a mental condition occurred. Always in a constant battle with myself, and yet the world that I witnesses is a little peculiar, my perception and sensation of color, and spontaneous brush strokes developed into willfulness and personal which making the scene appear to oscillate between illusion and reality. Demonstrating strong brush strokes and garish colors when the depressed persona takes control. Whereas at the hypomania stage my paintings show in a moderate style with subdued color and mild melancholy. Some may describe my work as dreamy-like, imaginary or even fantastic. However, my paintings documented my ordinary days as they are. Indulging in the two extremes is my way of existence.
