| Kalina Kostova's paintings move between observed reality and inner perception. Rooted in attentive observation, her practice transforms familiar bodies, places and objects into images shaped by memory, intuition and the subconscious. Across this selection, the human figure appears exposed, fragmented or suspended within uncertain environments. Urban landscapes, quiet interiors and dreamlike natural settings become spaces where vulnerability, solitude and emotional resilience quietly unfold. Kostova introduces surreal disruptions into seemingly recognizable scenes: a crimson figure hovering above a city, emotion released from the body, a hybrid presence facing the sea, or a missile suspended over a silent winter landscape. These unexpected elements unsettle ordinary perception without resolving the images into fixed narratives. Her work repeatedly holds opposing states in tension " presence and disappearance, care and dependence, stillness and unease, fragility and survival. Yet these oppositions are never static. Life and death belong to the same continuous process of transformation, in which endings carry the possibility of renewal and no condition remains fixed forever. Rather than defining what we see, Kostova invites us to encounter it piece by piece. Her paintings turn visible reality into a space of psychological and existential reflection, where each image remains open to renewed discovery as both the world and the viewer continue to change. |
